California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC) Certificate of Achievement
The California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC) Certificate of Achievement (COA) is designed to Prepare California Community College students for transfer to a California State University (CSU), University of California (UC), or a private college or university. Students who meet the Cal-GETC requirements are eligible to receive a COA. The certificate strives to provide students with a strong academic foundation that is essential to academic and professional success. The Cal-GETC certificate will also satisfy the general education requirements of an Associate Degree for Transfer and the University Studies degrees.
Completion of the Cal-GETC Certificate of Achievement does not guarantee acceptance into a baccalaureate major program or four- year institution. Students interested in receiving this certificate must file an official request with the Admissions and Records Office prior to the deadline as stated in the Academic Calendar.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:- Demonstrate understanding of the nature and richness of human culture and social structures through a comparative approach and have a pronounced historical perspective.
- Recognize the contributions to knowledge, civilization, and society that have been made by men, women, and members of various ethnic or cultural groups.
- Utilize modes of inquiry that characterize the different areas of human thought: the nature of the questions that can be addressed, the way questions are formulated, the way analysis is conducted, and the validity and implications of the answers obtained.
Note: All courses must be completed with a "C" or higher or "Pass."
AREA 1 – ENGLISH COMMUNICATION (three courses — 9 semester or 12 quarter units)

AREA 2 – MATHEMATICAL CONCEPTS AND QUANTITATIVE REASONING (one course — 3 semester or 4 quarter units)

AREA 3 – ARTS AND HUMANITIES (two courses — 6 semester or 8 quarter units)

AREA 4 – SOCIAL AND BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES (two courses from two academic disciplines — 6 semester or 8 quarter units)

AREA 5 – PHYSICAL AND BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES (two courses, one Physical Science and one Biological Science; at least one of the two courses must be associated with a laboratory — 7 semester or 9 quarter units)
- 5A, 5B, 5C
AREA 6 – ETHNIC STUDIES (one course — 3 semester or 4 quarter units)

*The courses approved to be used for this certificate must be articulated for use in a Cal-GETC general education area.
